COURSES

Below is a basic description of the level of each course, suitability, duration and content. For a more detailed description of the course content please click on the syllabus links on the left.

Appointed Person – this is a 1 day (6 hour) course. The course is suitable for use in low to medium risk environments such as shops and offices where staff numbers are below 50. Course syllabus includes contents of first aid kits, responsibilities of the first aider, the law, accident reporting, recovery position, CPR, treatment of
bleeding and major conditions relevant to the workplace. This course is instructor assessed. Maximum of 15 candidates per course, price includes emergency aid manual and certification (valid for 3 years).

First Aid at Work – this is a 4 day (24 hour) course. The course is suitable for use in low risk environments such as larger shops and offices as well as high risk environments such as construction sites and factories. Course syllabus includes definition aims and principles of first aid, contents of first aid kits, responsibilities of the first aider, the law, accident reporting, Recovery position, CPR, Treatment of bleeding and all medical conditions likely to arise such as anaphylaxia, breaks, burns, choking, diabetes, epilepsy, head injuries, heart attack, angina, stroke, shock etc. This course is independently and externally assessed. Maximum of 12 candidates per course, price includes a first aid manual, assessment fees and certification (valid for 3 years).

First Aid at Work Renewal - this is a 2 day (12 hours) course. Pre-requisite is a current (in date or within 28 days of expiry) HSE approved FAW qualification. Syllabus as for the 4 day First Aid at Work course although less detailed due the renewing of the qualification. This course is independently and externally assessed. Maximum of 12 candidates per course, price includes First aid manual, assessment fees and certification (valid for 3 years).

NaRS Paediatric First Aid – this is a 2 day (12 hour) course and is a Pre-School Learning Alliance and National Childminding Association approved course. This course is ideally suited for those working with children and required to have a suitable qualification recognised by OFSTED such as nurseries, crèches and holiday play
schemes. Course syllabus includes definition aims and principles of first aid, contents of first aid kits, responsibilities of the first aider, the law, accident reporting, Recovery position, child and baby CPR, treatment of bleeding, child conditions such as breath-holding attacks, croup, asthma, epilepsy, meningitis, infantile convulsions etc. This course is instructor assessed. Maximum of 12 candidates per course, price includes Paediatric first aid manual and certification (valid for 3 years).

Emergency Life Support – this is a 3 hour course. This is an entry level resuscitation qualification. The course covers primary assessment of a casualty, secondary assessment of a casualty, CPR and the treatment of bleeding. This course is instructor assessed. Maximum of 16 candidates per course, price includes emergency aid manual and certification (valid for 3 years).

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation - this is a 2 hour course and is an entry level resuscitation qualification. The course covers primary assessment of a casualty, CPR, and recovery position. This course is instructor assessed. Maximum of 15 candidates per course, price includes certification (valid for 3 years). Automated External

Defibrillator (AED) Operator – this is a 4 hour course. This course is suitable for those working at a site or venue which has a defibrillator such as shopping centres and sport / leisure centres. The course syllabus includes Primary assessment, CPR, safe use of an AED, the theory of cardiac arrest, chain of survival, heart attacks etc. This course is trainer assessed. Maximum of 6 candidates per course, price includes AED and emergency aid manual and certification (valid for 6 months).

AED Refresher - this is a 2 hour course to recap the skills learned on the initial AED Operator course. This course should be taken every 6 months to ensure competence in CPR and AED use is maintained. 6 monthy refresher training represents best practice and acts as evidence of competence. Price includes certification (valid for 6 months)

Supplementary Oxygen Administration - This is a 2 hour course covering the safe storage and administration of medical oxygen, indications and contra-indications of use and the practical familiarisation and use of Supplementary Oxygen equipment. Maximum of 6 candidates per course, price includes course booklet
and certification (valid for 1 year).

Advanced Resuscitation Skills - this is a 6 hour course covering basic airway management, CPR recap, use of pocket masks, use of bag Valve masks, manual suction, use of Oxygen as an adjunct to CPR. Pre-requisites - candidates must have held a current and in-date first aid qualification for at least one year. Maximum of 6 candidates per course, price includes course booklet and certification valid for (1 year)

Emergency Responder Course - this is a two day (12 hour) course and is suitable for those who act as part of a rescue or response team either at work, in recreation or volunteering. The training mirrors that received by Community Responders, First Responders and Fire and Rescue Co-responders. Course includes Advanced Resus Skills as above, Supplementary Oxygen Administration as above and AED operator as above. Pre-requisites
are that candidates must hold a current and in-date first aid qualification for at least one year. It is reccommended due to the content of the course that this HSE First Aid at Work but others may be considered. Maximum 6 candidates per course. Price includes manuals and certification (valid for 1 year).
